Back in July I made a little compilation/mix for A Smile In The Mind, a blog by my friend Robin Kranenborg.
I forgot to share it here.

With this compilation I wanted to create the soundtrack of your loveliest night in the summer – great vibes,
sweet words, deep talk and magical silences… For me, music goes along with every moment in a day.
I’m always aware of the atmosphere around me and music is often the biggest support to make it feel
right and comfortable. I like music that stimulate thoughts, sounds that lead you through a different
mind state and shape moments that you couldn’t ask for…

Bimhuis is one of the special places I aim to visit more often but never really do – and that’s all
ok, it keeps the magic alive. Once in while I’m fortunate to enjoy something I’ve never heard of
or desperately want to see and always leave the place with a dose of inspiration good for months.

Bimhuis is part of the Muziekgebouw aan het IJ in Amsterdam. The venue provides a perspective
on Dutch and international music in which a variety of jazz and improvised music can be enjoyed.
The focus is on new developments, and besides the ‘regular’ programme there is space for special
events like Beat Dimensions with Flying Lotus and Hudson Mohawke or Viral Radio Festival which
will take place this saturday night (3rd of September) with the likes of Ras G, Darkstar and Knalpot.

Keep an eye on the programme and drop in once in a while…

I have no idea where to start if I want to write something about the great projects of Moritz von Oswald,
one of the most influential producers of techno music in the 90s. Together with Mark Ernestus
he founded the legendary Berlin based Basic Channel label (1993) and they form Rhythm & Sound.
Under this name they release their intepretation of the dub sound; stripped down, full of space
- deep, dark and mesmerizing. When listening to this music through the headphone I find myself
headnodding with my eyes closed behind the laptop – this music makes you think and reveals
your deepest thoughts. One of my favorite tunes is See Mih Jah – it’s monotone sound is
hypnotic and far from boring. See Mih Jah is the title track of the album which wears the same name.

In the past 14 years they released their tunes on a sublabel of Basic Channel called Burial Mix.
Expect more about Basic Channel and Moritz in the near future.

Low Motion Disco keeps it slow, just like our postings in the past few months – ok, not that slow.
LMD is from Switzerland, the duo creates dreamy listening music where you can dance
to as well…slowly. Their sound is shaped by the combination of old-school dub techniques,
ambient field recordings, a passion for classic soul and r&b and the slow-motion rhythms
of hearts beating at rest. Their last album ‘Keep it slow’ was released in 2007 at the belgium
Eskimo Recordings. See their blog for mixes and inspiration.

Coming from Sacramento, Dusty Brown, a talented producer and musician who, along
with his eponymous band, creates a sort of beat-centric clash between raw ambient-electronic

Retina release date 24th of may, with 1600 copies worldwide. Iris, will be made available in early June.
Each will be individually numbered, limited edition white vinyl 12”s. The two EPs will then be compiled
as an album, entitled Rivers, to be released as a double CD and download in August. The songs were
recorded in Iceland in just three days by Mariam Wallentin and Andreas Werliin and the 12-strong
Schola Cantorum Reykjavík Chamber Choir (who also featured on Björk’s Medulla album). The
EP features a stellar cast drawn from the Bedroom Community group, recorded by Australian émigré
sound artist and engineer Ben Frost, mixed by Valgeir Sigurðsson (Camille, CocoRosie, Bonnie
Prince Billy, etc) and with choral arrangements by Hildur Guðnadóttir (who has collaborated with
Fever Ray, Throbbing Gristle and is a member of Múm). Waiting for the 24th of may
Wildbirds & peacedrums made me for now very curious.

A one man’s project of Darius Gerulis from Lithuania. With slow and build-up soundscapes in his songs
the title of his latest album literally refers to my dreams. Listen to Clouds, Lullaby for the Owls, Vision
quest at the Red Mountain and fall asleep under these deep atmospheres…

Colourfull and full of dazzling shots. “We built a fire” the latest single of this Icelandic band. Their
music is recorded in their basement studio and all artwork is handmade by  Ingibjörg Birgisdóttir,
the partner of the singer and a band mate. Started as a single project of Sindri, singer/multi-instrumentalist
this band now morphed into a experimental/folk septet, reinforced with “feel good” visuals. Recognized
by its very Icelandic DIY setup.

The work of Estonian producer Abstract Detail brings me rest and a peaceful mind. The ‘emptyness’ in his
stripped-down arrangements give me space for own thoughts and intepretations where others take me away.
I find it hard to write down a description for his sound. Think it is best to describe as a very minimalistic
approach on the best what electronic music has to offer.

Some months ago I met Rutger Muller, a dedicated electronic music producer with various projects under his name.
One is his DS-10 Dominator alias. Under this monniker he performs and produces tracks on his Nintendo DS
with japanese Korg DS-10 software. Enjoy an inspiring compilation mix he created for – and with -
his community at ds10forum.com.
